Make or break: You will know the result on the day of the interview. This is an integral part of the process after completing the steps discussed in Part 1 and Part 2. Here are the guidelines and tips on the day of the interview:

  • Ensure to bring all prepared documents. Make a checklist. Segregate it the easier way you can pull out the paper when needed.
  • Wear an appropriate and comfortable attire, stay casual and presentable.
  • Arrive in US embassy at least 30 minutes before the interview schedule.
  • Leave the phone and other electronic devices to a trusted person or in the car as it is strictly prohibited inside the Embassy.
  • An officer will lead the steps to follow when entering the Consulate section
  • There will be different windows to visit: (1) ten-printing, (2) pre-screening by a Filipino officer basically document verification and (3) interview with the US Consulate officer
  • Greet the officer with a smile and bid “Good morning” or “Hello, how are you?”
  • Be confident and comfortable answering questions in English language
  • Make an eye contact when listening and speaking
  • Answer the questions truthfully, clearly and straight to the point
  • Avoid answering with too much information and telling unnecessary things
  • Do not be afraid to ask the officer to repeat the question. Be polite all the time.
  • The officer might not look for the supporting documents at all, just present it when needed
  • Mind that the officer can figure out the real intention of applicants through the way they speak and by the body language. Hence, compose yourself.

After the interview, the consul will tell if the application is passed or rejected.

If you made it, they will get the current passport for Visa stamping and will tell the expected time to deliver it. And of course, Congratulations! You can also track the passport through this link

If you failed, the consul will provide a blue slip indicating the reason for denial and return the passport to you.

Tip #1: Do not beg nor argue with the consul. Try again, it could be sweet the second time around. (I was denied on my first attempt and passed on second.)
